Information from the Thames Cancer Registry

I have the pleasure of updating you with several new pieces of information.

The Thames Cancer Registry is currently preparing for its peer review visit, which takes place on 6 December. We have prepared a contextual report for the peer review panel and a business report for the financial year 2005-2006. I attach these two documents for your information.

We recently conducted a project of predicting the future incidence rates and the future annual numbers of different cancers in England. I attach for your information a Power Point presentation, which summarises the results. The main message is that the incidence rate of all cancers combined has stabilised and reached a plateau. Due to the demographic pressures from an increasing and ageing population, it is predicted that the annual numbers of new cancer patients will increase by about 30% up to the year 2020.

We have worked together with the cancer registries in Oxford and in the South and West region to produce a report on cancer inequalities. The report is attached for your information.

I take the opportunity to remind you of our website www.tcr.org.uk, which is periodically updated with new information and publications. Please contact us directly with requests for information or suggestions for analysis and collaborative research projects.

Yours sincerely
