About Thames Cancer RegistryThe Thames Cancer Registry (TCR) is one of 12 population-based registries in the United Kingdom and covers the residential population of London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The registry collects information about new cases of cancer and produces statistics about incidence, prevalence, survival and mortality. TCR is one of the largest population based cancer registries in Europe and a unique data resource for research, dating back to 1960. Examples of epidemiological research include studies of variation in cancer occurrence between different geographical areas or over time. In recent years the work of all registries has expanded to include the analysis of aspects of cancer prevention, treatment and care. Cancer services research is a new field that investigates variation in the provision of cancer services and related outcomes. The registries can assess how local and national targets for cancer services provision are met, and can contribute important information to the planning of services. TCR routinely contributes data to the national cancer registry held at the Office for National Statistics (ONS), is active in the collaboration of the UK Association of Cancer Registries (UKACR) and in international collaborations. Thames Cancer Registry is a Department in the Divisions
of Cancer Studies and Health and Social Care Research at King's College
London. For general comments and inquiries about the registry or this
